Happy Early Turkey day!
Since this is my last blog post before Thanksgiving 2019, I figured I’d do something a little bit closer to sharing what I’m thankful for. Yes of course I’m thankful for my parents, animals, home, etc., but I am also extraordinarily thankful for one very talented pink doggo that shares AZ with me as their home. Her name is CassMutt, but I just call her Cass!
The Dang Good Doggo
Based out of Southern Arizona, CassMutt and her business That One Pink Dog Studios are a true inspiration to me. Even though I’ve only known about CassMutt since around February of 2018 (that’s when I officially joined the fandom), she has inspired me and made me truly believe that I can achieve my dreams and goals, just by being herself! You might be doubting the credibility I have here, but let me tell you, in just that short time I’ve seen her grow and blossom like no other artist I’ve met!
Adorable Badges
I was originally entranced by her adorable toony style and simply impeccable drive to make her art (and business) the best it could be. That’s when I discovered that she made more than just her digital pieces; That One Pink Dog Studios created Fursuit and Convention Badges.
Naturally, after oogling at Cass’ work for a while, I had to have a badge of my own. It was at Painted Desert Fur Con, 2019, that I finally had the courage (and the funds) to try and commission her. I remember being so nervous! I was so new to the fandom and looked up to her so much, I was nervous that I would make it awkward or say something less than smart. I distinctly remember I walking by the table with That One Pink Dog Studios’ banner on it at least four times before I finally said hi to the gentleman behind the table. Being my awkward self, the first words out of my mouth were “Hi! Are you Cass?”. Of course, the response was “No, I’m sorry”. I can’t remember if it was her shark-boy Jack or not, I just remembered feeling really embarrassed. Laughing nervously through my red cheeks I asked how to go about commissioning a badge and went through the process with not-Cass. I payed for the badge and left with a smile, but in my gut I knew I had to meet Cass, just so I could tell her what an inspiration she is to me. Later, on my way to the Con dance with a couple of my friends, I spotted her. Running up to her like an idiot I waved excitedly like I knew her, which she returned pleasantly. Being overly excited and probably somewhat scaring her, I introduced myself, blurting out something like “Cass you’re so awesome, keep doing what you’re doing because you’re doing great!” Cass was gracious enough to figure out which character was mine in her chat so she had a better idea of who I was, shook my hand, and thanked me for my support. It was only after the interaction that I had realized how much of a stupid fangirl I had just been.
Fast-forward a couple months (after I became a bit more comfortable with her in her art chat on Telegram) I received my beautiful badge in the mail.
I was ecstatic, to say the least. To the point where my CassMutt badge hangs proudly on my door when not in use, so company knows which door is mine, which door is my roommates, and which one of us is definitely proud of being a furry. Of course, that wasn’t the end for me, and I decided that I had to keep supporting this wonderful person the best that I could.
Shopping Spree!
After I got my badge, I was hooked. Not just on Cass’ artwork (we already knew I was in love way before this point) but with the good feeling of knowing I was supporting a local Arizona artist, as well as an all-around wonderful human. It was then that Cass posted an advertisement for her Etsy Store in her art chat.
Now I never really considered myself a big sticker person until I became a part of the fandom. I’m not going to lie, I became obsessed. I still am, come to think of it. Covering my art box, cash box, carving knife box, and whatever else I own that could be associated with my artwork and also have a blank surface in stickers has become my reality. At first I was simply buying stickers at random, before I realized I was spending at least 1$ a month at That One Pink Dog Studios’ Etsy every month (if not way more than that, honestly). So I decided to subscribe to CassMutt’s very own Patreon! If you’re not familiar, Patreon is a subscription type of service where you can pay a monthly fee to artists and receive all kinds of rewards! This seemed like a no-brainer for me and I told myself that it would help curb my spending on Etsy, especially at That One Pink Dog Studios. Naturally, it hasn’t, but I’ll be damned if I unsubscribe from CassMutt’s Patreon. The rewards are just too good!
Digital Icons
So now October of 2019 rolls around, and Cass begins doing streams of Halloween-themed things. Naturally, I not only decided to watch and donate to her stream, but also to get an icon as well!
I mean come on now, how could I resist?! Look at how cute she made me! In all seriousness though, if you don’t think her art style is adorable, I respect your opinion, even though your opinion is wrong.
Fursuits
Ah yes, of course the dream of any furry, budding artist or not, is to have a fursuit. One of those $3,000 carpets you can overheat for hours in, and take all the silly, wonderful pictures. I remember trying to avoid the fact that Cass makes suits for quite some time. Outright denial, really. Simply because I know I can’t afford one. But alas, then Cass made the wonderfully adorably partial named “Mojave”.
With follow-me eyes, a heccin plushy tail, and removable eyelids, this adorable suit tempted me like no other! I am a big cat lover at heart, as all of you may already have guessed, so Mojave absolutely stole my heart! Due to unfortunate life events and my financial situation at the time, I was unable to attend Itty Bitty Fur Con OR DenFur to go purchase this cutie. Nonetheless, Mojave did find their furever home at DenFur 2019, and is being well-loved by their new owner!
Not long after the heartache of not being able to buy Mojave at IBFC, CassMutt came out with another partial that absolutely won me over! This one wasnt exactly cat inspired, but every bit as adorable as Mojave the puma, who came before. Readers, feast your eyes upon the utterly adorable Orion the Manokit!
For those of you who are unaware, a Manokit is an open species created by DubMutt and you’re more than welcome to make your own! Orion here was created by Cass and sold to their furever home at DenFur 2019 as well! Such adorable suits, right? And heres the best part: these suits are PREMADE. That’s right. These aren’t even her custom suits! And you best believe That One Pink Dog Studios offers custom suits!
See that gorgeously intricate head in the upper left-paw corner of the image above? THAT is one of CassMutt’s custom, commissioned heads. Beautiful, am I right? And because That One Pink Dog Studios isn’t a big-time fursuit company yet, a full partial (including custom feet and hand paws, arm-sleeves, a tail, and a head) start at just $1,100! Holy Guacamole! Under two-thousand dollars for a completely customized, high quality, adorable full-partial suit? That’s freakin unheard of in this fandom! Oh, and did I mention that everything is handsewn, including the balaclava that lines the inside of the suit?
Yeah, this dang good doggo hand-sews EVERYTHING. Yet her suits are still fairly cheap and awesome quality.
Y’all can guess what’s probably next right?
Unfortunately I’m not in a good enough place financially to commission one of Cass’ suits just yet, but I’ve absolutely talked with her about possibly getting one. Hopefully one of my future blog posts will be about the unboxing of my suit from That One Pink Dog Studios and it will refer back to this very blog. Who knows what the future holds, right?
